ALARM installation engineer Kurt Flewitt is the latest recruit at Mold-headquartered Jackson Fire & Security. Kurt, 27, had joined the firm’s team installing and servicing systems for clients primarily in Wirral and Liverpool. Born and bred in Chester, where he still lives, Kurt had previously worked for a security alarm installer for 10 years, fitting and servicing domestic intruder alarms, before spending a year as a self-employed engineer. Most of his work at Jackson Fire & Security is for commercial clients.  He said:
“A typical servicing job is to spend one day a week testing fire alarms and emergency lights for a housing trust that owns residential tower blocks in Liverpool. “We also install systems into a lot of new build premises, which are required by law to have fire alarms in every room.  I recently installed a fire alarm into a new doctors’ surgery.”
Kurt, who once spent three weeks installing an elaborate security system into a Premiership football club manager’s home, said:
“For domestic properties, radio systems are very good now.  The householder doesn’t have to have wires threaded through the house and the batteries last for many years. “Security for business premises has improved, with the introduction of sensors that alert the CCTV monitoring station when someone steps onto the premises, and microphones for monitors to talk to intruders and tell them to leave.”
However, better technology still can’t overcome breaches caused by human error.  Kurt added:
“Too many people are still having cars stolen from outside the house because they leave their car keys close to the front door.  Thieves hook the key through the letterbox and drive off.”
Managing director Steve Jackson said:
“Kurt has brought a lot of experience to our team.   He’s good at keeping up with new technology and trends, which is so important as technology is evolving and improving all the time.  He’s fitting in well.”
