Jackson Fire and Security is challenging other businesses to bake cakes with a twist – all in the name of charity. The cakes must be related to your business (check out our fire extinguisher cake above!) with slices sold in aid of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). After selling the slices to their teams, we then want firms to nominate other companies to rise to the sponge cake challenge. All money donated will support our charity of the year the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and JDRF. The Hospice of the Good Shepherd, based in Backford near Chester, provides free-of-charge palliative care to patients and their families facing life-limiting illnesses across Cheshire West and Deeside. JDRF raises funds towards research of type 1 diabetes in children and adults, a rare form of the condition, which cannot be self-inflicted. The charities are close to the hearts of two Jackson Fire & Security employees in particular, with engineer Daron Holdcroft’s dad cared for by the hospice, while Elinor Richards and her family, who live with type 1 diabetes, fundraise for JDRF. Elinor said:
“I’m over the moon we have backed the JDRF, which makes an important contribution towards research of type 1 diabetes in children and adults. “The challenge is also a fantastic way to bring the team together and educate more people about the condition, which affects thousands of people here in the UK. “Supporting the JDRF who fund Type 1 diabetes research into treatments and cures and promote awareness of this autoimmune condition is invaluable.”
The Hospice of the Good Shepherd’s head of fundraising & lottery, Sylvia Pearl, said: “We think this is a tremendous idea, and will hopefully help both charities. We can’t wait to see all of the cake pictures start rolling in. Jackson Fire & Security director Tim Fletcher, who came up with the idea, said:
“We’re excited to have launched the sponge cake challenge in aid of these two worthwhile causes. “We hope other businesses will join us on the challenge, and try to beat our special Jackson Fire & Security sponge extinguisher.
