Gold Standard Health Award

Jackson Fire & Security have been awarded The Gold Small Workplace Health Award by Welsh Government.  The Health at Work Scheme is delivered through Public Health Wales and encourages employers in Wales to adopt practices that will  improve and maintain employee health and well-being.

The national quality mark covers a number of subject areas including health and safety, organisational support, mental health, physical activity and corporate social responsibility.

The team of fire and security specialists have been implementing various different health & well-being initiatives to engage with staff which in turn has boosted staff morale and team spirit.

Whilst pushing for the silver award last year, staff at the Mold head office walked the equivalent of the Welsh Coastal Path, which is 870 miles or 2,175,000 steps. Healthy snacks such as fresh fruit are also provided weekly to encourage all staff and visitors to eat well.

Employees now have access to Perkbox which is an employee benefit scheme designed to reward employees for all their hard work. Membership provides a wellness section and includes discounts off gym memberships, healthcare providers and a cycle to work scheme.

In order to achieve gold status the company had to demonstrate good levels of corporate social responsibility. The Jackson team had no problem demonstrating this having completed charity colour runs, bake-offs and litter-picks consistently to support the local community over the  last few years.

More recently, through their membership with the West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce, Jackson Fire & Security have been pro-active in helping with the Young Chamber initiative, aimed at bridging the gap between education and employment.

Young Chamber has so far involved going into local schools and assisting students with CV writing, mock interviews and exhibiting at local schools providing information on apprenticeships.

Steve Hand, finance and HR manager at Jackson Fire & Security said:

“We’re committed to continuing all the good work we have put into achieving this standard and we have enjoyed every aspect of the challenge.

“We want to continue to encourage and plan healthy activities for employees and there has been a lot of talk about a walk up Snowdon so watch this space for that!

“I hope other businesses in the region follow our lead and help promote healthy lifestyles for their employees.”
